Darkish gray in color with box-like patterns on body and black fins.
Although often confused with the more popular and widely distributed
gag grouper, the black's markings are darker, it's fins are black
and the fin edges are black or dark blue.
Size: Most of those we catch will scale between 5 and 10 pounds, although
some often weigh between 20 and 40 pounds. A Black Grouper scaling
50 pounds or more will probably get the angler some positive press
coverage in a newspaper, magazine or TV.
